Will payers or providers benefit more from the transition to ICD-10? I guess time will tell. Most independent pundits say it will improve payer performance, therefore, benefiting providers as well. Perhaps providers will be able to more succinctly identify and submit diagnosis and procedure codes thus reducing denials. One thing is for sure, transformation of this scale will cost payers and providers billions of dollars to change technology and train their people. It certainly isn’t an incentive for either of them. Stay tuned. This change is as big as it gets!
